The suspect, believed to be 30-35 years old, fired around 12 shots. During the incident, evacuated parishioners were seen outside the church. The shooter, accompanied by a young child, was killed by off-duty officers returning fire.
The child, whose relationship to the shooter is uncertain, was critically injured. A parishioner was also wounded. The suspect falsely claimed to have a bomb, and an unknown substance was sprayed during the attack. Authorities are investigating the shooter's arrest history.
The incident occurred before a Spanish language service, prompting considerations of a hate crime investigation. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Joel Osteen responded to the tragedy, emphasizing community solidarity and the need for healing.
The suspected shooter was born in El Salvador.

The individual had prior arrests for assault, forgery, marijuana possession, theft, evading and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to KHOU's Jeremy Rogalski. According to a Texas Department of Public Safety records search, her criminal report dates back to 2005.
