LANSING, Mich - If you’re not familiar with the phrase “dues skim,” that’s because it was a battle fought and won more than a decade ago.
Years before dues skim went away, home health workers — often people taking care of loved ones who cannot take care of themselves — would realize that their paychecks were light.
Then they found out why: They were paying a union they never signed up for or received benefits from. Dues were being skimmed from their paychecks, and nobody even bothered to ask. That practice was put to rest in 2013.
But the old days of dues skim would return under Senate Bill 790, which was submitted Thursday by Sen. Kevin Hertel, D-St. Clair Shores. Click here to learn more.

WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson said Monday that she was concerned that the First Amendment was “hamstringing the government in significant ways, in the most important time periods.”
Jackson addressed Louisiana Solicitor General Benjamin Aguiñaga, whose state joined Missouri in suing the federal government over its attempts to censor speech on social media platforms during the coronavirus pandemic, ostensibly for public health reasons. Click here for more.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Agents at the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and throughout the intelligence community were distributed a newsletter that celebrated an intelligence official for crossdressing, saying that dressing up in women’s clothes makes him “a better intelligence officer,” according to an internal document obtained by The Daily Wire.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence sent its internal newsletter, called “The Dive” and obtained by The Daily Wire through a Freedom of Information Act request, to personnel across the entire Intelligence Community. Featured in the newsletter was an article by an anonymous official claiming that crossdressing makes him a better intelligence officer. Click here for more.

CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Teachers Union is pushing an education model that is failing students: sustainable community schools.
There are currently 20 of the community schools within Chicago Public Schools. All but one of the 12 elementary community schools fall below the district average for reading proficiency. All have lower math proficiency than the district average, which is already lower than the state average.
All eight of the community high schools perform below the district average in both reading and math.
Despite these dismal results, Chicago Teachers Union leadership wants to increase the number of these failing community schools tenfold – from 20 schools to 200.
The Chicago Board of Education, appointed by former CTU organizer Mayor Brandon Johnson, is also headed in that direction. It passed a resolution in December to move away from selective enrollment and magnet schools to focus on community schools. Click here to learn more.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Florida Republican Rep. Cory Mills said he and his team have executed another rescue mission out of Haiti as the island country faces increasing political violence and turmoil.
Mills said Monday morning he helped rescue another 13 Americans out of Port-au-Prince.
“Our team has now successfully rescued and evacuated more Americans than Biden and his entire administration,” he said.
“Americans deserve support from their government. Not the pattern of abandonment this administration has shown,” Mills said. Click here for more.
