The website goes on to say, “Many refugees and other newcomers face critical housing challenges, and this program will increase access to better and more affordable housing opportunities while supporting a more rapid social integration to refugees and other newcomer populations to Michigan.

UPDATE: Iran launches drone attack on Israel

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Joe Biden is set to meet with key national security officials in the Situation Room following his return from Rehoboth, Delaware, the White House announced today. This high-level gathering will include Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown, alongside National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Deputy Adviser Jon Finer.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Chief of Staff Jeff Zients are expected to join the meeting via secure video link. The meeting follows earlier briefings provided to the President concerning escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In related developments, tensions have surged in the region as Iran launched multiple drone attacks against Israel, a move confirmed by both Israeli and U.S. officials. The Israeli Defense Forces have publicly acknowledged the attacks, stating readiness to respond both defensively and offensively.

LANSING, Mich - Just days after she created a new Office of Defense and Aerospace Innovation, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Wednesday announced a taxpayer-funded drone competition “to drive innovation in autonomous drone technology.”

Whitmer announced the Unmanned Triple Challenge at the Michigan Defense Expo in Warren, where she laid out the competition to “seamlessly transport a package across Michigan traversing air, land, and water,” according to her press office.

The contest will tap the resources of the Michigan National Guard, Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to fulfill Whitmer’s goal of transforming the state into a leader in the aerospace industry. Click here to read more.

LOS ANGELES, CALIF - Runaways singer Cherie Currie has had enough of the “lies and more lies” coming out of the Democratic Party — and she said that it’s no longer “punk” to vote for them.

Currie, who rose to fame as part of the “all-girls answer to Grand Funk [Railroad],” shared the spotlight with iconic punk guitarists Joan Jett and Lita Ford — but she said in a post to X on Wednesday that the Democratic Party had lost its Rock ‘n’ Roll cred.

“It used to be PUNK, R&R to vote Democrat. I fell for it,” Currie said. “But when your party demands you live in fear, squaller [sic], beyond your means by just buying groceries, gasoline, disrespecting our veterans, our police, our elderly, supporting CRIMINALS, chaos, riots, Hamas, FAILING Israel, demeaning us at every turn! HURTING our CHILDREN! Wasting OUR MONEY.” Click here to read more.

CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Teachers Union is preparing to negotiate its new contract with 142 pages of demands, including that each asylum-seeking student receive $2,000.

Demanding teacher pay rise $51,000 might be excessive, but it’s understandable for CTU to be concerned about teacher performance, evaluation, compensation and benefits. But then there’s the rest of the 142 pages, which include a lot of things that have no logical link to workplace concerns.

What entitles CTU to demand a one-time, taxpayer-funded lump-sum payout to each asylum-seeking student? Maybe the fact that the taxpayers’ champion this summer will be one of CTU’s own: Mayor Brandon Johnson.

CTU’s demands and public pronouncements show they want to use the contract to force social change. It expects commitments from the mayor’s office to fund social justice, climate justice and other political goals unrelated to the conditions under which educators work. Click here to read more.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Many Catholics were outraged to see footage of President Biden making the sign of the cross at an abortion rally in Florida, apparently in mock incredulity at Ron DeSantis’s six-week abortion ban.

You can watch the video here.

Blessing yourself to show support for abortion (a grave evil, according to the church) violates the second commandment — “you shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain” — and possibly constitutes blasphemy. Click here to read more.

KANSAS CITY, KS - UNDATED (WKRC) - Crumbl is testing to smaller cookies in an effort to boost sales.

According to Restaurant Business Online, cookie-chain Crumbl is testing smaller cookies in an attempt to generate larger sales. Per the outlet, the chain will introduce "Mini Mondays," on which stores will create miniature-sized versions of its popular treats.

Customers will be able to purchase Crumbl's Mini Cookies in a three, six or 12 pack, per the outlet.

DENVER, COL - A miracle of modern medicine or a miracle from a higher power? No matter what you believe, the recovery story of Cartier McDaniel is nothing short of amazing.

At just 4 years old, his heart stopped beating for 14 hours — and then all of a sudden, it restarted. Now, his family and doctors are sharing an experience they’ve never seen before.

Cartier was a typical child full of energy, with a big heart and a lot of love to go around. But in a matter of days, his heart stopped beating. It’s a haunting memory that Cartier’s parents, Destiny Anderson and Dominique McDaniel, relive daily. Click here for more.

AURORA, COL - A transgender registered sex offender has been snapped in a creepy mugshot after he was busted allegedly trying to snatch a child from a Colorado elementary school.

Solomon Galligan, 33, was arrested after he came onto a field where kids were playing at Black Forest Hills Elementary School in Aurora last Friday afternoon, 9News reported.

Surveillance video captured Galligan approaching the students just moments before they scattered and started screaming, “Stranger danger. Click here to read more.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Many more voters than not, especially women and Hispanics, feel that Congress and President Joe Biden are giving too much taxpayer-funded support to Ukraine, which is slated for another check of $61 billion.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets on Wednesday morning found that 47% believed the new money was “too much.” Just 20% wanted more, and 24% believed it was “about right.” In a bipartisan vote Tuesday night, the Senate finally approved several funding bills, including those for foreign aid. Biden is expected to sign the bills quickly.

Rasmussen, however, found that many likely voters are on the side of some key House Republicans in believing that the country has spent too much on the effort to help Ukraine fend off Russia’s invasion.

A majority of women, Hispanics, and Republicans opposed further spending. The new spending will nearly double Biden’s investment in Ukraine. Click here to read more.

LOS ANGELES, CALIF - Taylor Swift’s latest album “The Tortured Poets Department” has a noticeably darker, mature tone than her others, which is leaving some moms asking whether or not it is “suitable for kids.”

Swift’s new album contains seven explicit songs that all come with warning labels, which means the lyrics can include things like strong language, violence, sex, or substance abuse, notifying parents it “may be inappropriate for kids.” Click here to read more.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - On I-94 in Minnesota, a team of good samaritans and highway rescue personnel bandied together to save a stranger trapped unconscious inside a burning car.

Simply incredible dash camera footage shows 5 or 6 people pulling over and leaping out of their cars after an SUV runs off the highway and bursts into flames.

They fail in their team effort to open the doors as the flames rise, but a member of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Freeway Incident Response Safety Team—formerly called the Highway Helper—arrived in time to smash the window glass and pull the man out to safety.

It all started when 71-year-old Sam Orbovich, lost consciousness behind the wheel of his Honda. When color and motion returned to his vision, the Highway Helper had smashed the glass.

“I am alive today because several good Samaritans and professional first responders saved my life,” Orbovich said of the Thursday night incident.

“It is incredibly heroic when people driving down the highway choose to put themselves at risk by running toward the flames to extract a stranger from a burning car that could explode at any moment.” Click here to watch video.

LANSING, Mich - An effort to expand education choice in Michigan took another step April 4 as attorneys for several Michigan parents asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review and overturn an appeals court ruling in their lawsuit against the state.

Lawyers presenting five Michigan families and the Parent Advocates for Choice in Education Foundation filed a petition for a writ of certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court. The heart of the case lies in an amendment to the Michigan Constitution. Article 8, section 2 of the constitution prohibits direct or indirect appropriation of public funds to nonpublic schools, whether secular or religious. The lawsuit argues that this ban violates the equal protection clause of the U.S. Constitution. Click here to read more.

NEW YORK, NY - Several U.S. universities took strident measures this week to address pro-Palestinian student protests, including arresting demonstrators, moving classes online and closing campuses.

U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., who chairs the House Committee on Education and Labor, alleged Tuesday on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” that the protests are being funded and organized by outsiders.

“It’s obvious that someone is funding them,” Foxx said. “They were well prepared.”

At Columbia University in New York, officials canceled in-person classes for the rest of the semester after more than 100 protesters were arrested last week during an encampment on the campus. The university’s president called in police to make the arrests, but that did not stop the demonstrations. Click here to read more.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - A Minnesota Democratic state senator was arrested on Monday over an alleged burglary potentially compromising Democrat control of the state Senate.

Police arrested 49-year-old Sen. Nicole Mitchell on burglary charges after they were called to a home after a report of “active burglary,” according to the Detroit Lakes Police Department. Police arrested Mitchell at the home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, at around 4:45 a.m. and she was later charged with first-degree burglary.

Mitchell, first elected to office in 2022, was held in Becker County Jail after the arrest. The Democrat was released on her own recognizance on Tuesday after a court appearance before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, according to the Detroit Lakes Tribune.  Click here to read more.

LANSING, Mich - A new ranking of the best high schools in the country is offering the latest assessment of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s leadership on education in the Great Lakes State.

Rankings released by U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday shows only two Michigan high schools ranked in the top 20 for best overall high schools, and only one in the top 10.

The media company evaluated 673 Michigan high schools and 17,660 nationwide based on six weighted factors that measure student performance on state assessments and how well schools prepare students for college.

The data from the 2021-22 school year includes college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate. Click here to read more.

SANTA MONICA, CALIF - Santa Monica, California, is preparing to construct an apartment building for the homeless that would cost roughly $1 million per unit.

The apartment building, which will be built in Santa Monica and will be home to “122 apartments” and two levels of underground parking, will cost more than $123 million, according to the website for the City of Santa Monica.

A second design concept on the website found that the project could cost even more, totaling more than $200 million for 196 apartments. Click here to read more.
