POOLESVILLE, Md. (WJLA) — A nearly 100-year-old Marine veteran in hospice Friday was hand-delivered the high school diploma he never received.
98-year-old Richard Remp was unable to get his diploma back in the 1940s because he dropped out at age 17 to serve in World War II, then Korea, and then Vietnam. But he savored the remarkable moment Friday.
Remp, who goes by "Gunny" since he was a decorated gunnery sergeant in Vietnam, has been in hospice care at home since doctors discovered stage four cancer throughout his body after he fell a few weeks ago.
His family and his buddies at the nearby American Legion Post 247 hatched a plan to see if they could get him the high school diploma he was unable to attain after he left school to fight the Nazis. Click link to read more.

“I think that we need to,” Luna said after being asked about calls for pre-debate drug tests by Sunday Morning Futures hostess Maria Bartiromo. “We’re talking about someone who has the ability to launch nukes.”
The calls for drug tests come as Trump, 77, and Biden, 81, have agreed to two debates, one in June and one in September, and after Trump said he would demand a drug test, accusing Biden of being “high as a kite” delivering the State of the Union address. Trump has been pushing to debate Biden for months, but Biden only agreed to do so in the past few days. Click here to read more.
WASHINGTON D.C. - President Joe Biden acknowledged anti-Israel student protests while speaking at the Morehouse College commencement — but he also faced some protests of his own during the speech.
The war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas has been a hot-button issue on various college campuses, with protests reaching a fever pitch at the end of last month. Biden has denounced the violent protests seen at Columbia University and the University of California, Los Angeles, but did take time to say he hears protesters while speaking at the Morehouse College graduation ceremony on Sunday.
