Humane Society using "transgender cat" to push adoption
Humane Society faces support and opposition on social media
May 22, 2024

SAGINAW, Mich—The Saginaw County, Michigan Humane Society created some controversy on social media after advertising a “transgender cat” for adoption.

The Humane Society wrote, “This handsome cat came to us by walking up to a volunteering and not letting her leave. When arriving to HSoSC he was a very large intact male. He was named Edmond. While waiting to get neutered he became stressed which resulted in a blockage. After multiple attempts to correct the blockage it was decided the best course of action was to have a perineal urethrostomy performed (male to female). This surgery allowed E to become a normal cat again. Since then E has enjoyed being with the other cats, playing, and cuddling.

The cat is now named “E” and was formerly known as Edward. Within minutes of posting on social media, people began sounding off in support and opposition of the post.

Below are just some of the comments on Facebook:

“I support Any humane society in their efforts to get animals adopted but this is absolutely ridiculous to post this that way. Just sheer stupidity.”

“Who cares what he is... he's a cat that needs a home people!”

“This poor sweet baby! He's so deserves a home. And he's adorable”

“My daughter’s cat had the same problem . He had the same surgery done.”

“Pronouns me/ow”

“I can’t believe all these people making such a big deal over this. The Humane Society does so much for the animals of Saginaw and people are actually fighting over this. I made a comment on this sight years ago and got called every name you can think of.

The Saginaw County Humane Society replied to my post on social media about the adoption post:

“E is such a great cat. He had a rough start with us medically, however, after this surgery he has recovered perfectly with no further complications. You are correct we have a savvy adoption coordinator that does everything possible to help us find great forever homes.”

They said they used the wording “transgender” to help spur the adoption of the cat and other animals:

The procedure to remove the narrow part of his urethra in his penis was medically necessary after 8 different catheter attempts to prevent urinary blockage. Calling him transgender is simply marketing to get someone to read and understand his medical history as this had to be done to save his life. This post was not done to stir the pot, however, we do respect ALL people and we feel that it is not right for anyone to negatively judge, degrade or criticize another human if you have not walked in their shoes!

According to Cats.com, mating is a purely instinctual behavior intended for reproduction. It's theoretically possible that cats can be gay, bisexual, or identify in another way, we have no scientific evidence to support this.

There are various examples in the animal kingdom of sex changes and gender role reversals, often related to reproductive and social behaviors. Here are a few examples:

  1. Sequential Hermaphroditism: Some animals can change sex during their lifetime. For example, many fish species, such as clownfish and wrasses, exhibit sequential hermaphroditism. Clownfish are born male and can become female as they mature. In wrasses, the dominant female can change to male if the dominant male is removed.

  2. Simultaneous Hermaphroditism: Some animals, like earthworms and certain species of snails, possess both male and female reproductive organs simultaneously.

  3. Gender Role Reversal: In certain species, traditional gender roles are reversed. For example, in seahorses, it is the males that become pregnant and give birth.

  4. Sexual Dimorphism and Social Structures: In some species, individuals can display behaviors or physical traits typically associated with the opposite sex to gain reproductive or social advantages. For instance, some female spotted hyenas have external genitalia that resemble those of males, a trait that plays a role in their social hierarchy.

Some people are now questioning whether it is appropriate for companies or organizations to use transgender issues as a marketing strategy.

According to an article in TheDrum.com There's a growing call for brands to go beyond tokenism and truly support the trans community. The report says increased visibility in media and advertising has not alleviated the persistent challenges faced by trans people, including heightened violence and online abuse.

The author of the piece suggests influencers and agencies stress that representation should be continuous, not just during Pride Month, and should involve the community at all stages of campaign development.

Singer Rihanna responded to someone on Twitter (X) saying the issue of transgender should not be used as a marketing tool.

The LMD Marketing Agency wrote a blog post about marketing the transgender issue. When it comes to using humor they said the following:

Use humor—sensitively. Humor is fine, but don’t use transgender people as the punchline. Break out of common tropes—like the heterosexual man in bad drag—that portray transgender people the butt of a joke. Instead, a theme of “acceptance with a twist” will work to counter worn-out cliches and lower the barriers to acceptance.

School Board Member Alleges Information Withheld in Proposed $40 Million School Sale

SWARTZ CREEK, Mich. — Tensions flared at a recent Swartz Creek School Board meeting after a board member claimed he was not given key information about a potential $40 million sale of Moorish Elementary School to a state-backed development project.

Board member Chuck Melki alleged that documents related to the proposed sale were withheld from him and the public. The school sits within a large industrial site in Mundy Township where the state of Michigan has already spent $259 million to clear land for a potential factory project. Despite the investment, several companies have declined to move in, leaving the land vacant.

“I wasn’t given all the information about the possible sale of this school,” Melki said during the meeting, adding that he recently learned documents existed as far back as May indicating the property could be sold. He accused the district’s former superintendent, who has since left for another district, of withholding the paperwork.

Board member Carrie ...

Minnesota Church School Shooting Suspect ‘Identifies as Female,’ Changed Name at 17 Years Old

A senior administration official confirmed to Breitbart News that the alleged shooter at a Minneapolis Catholic school changed from a male name to a female name at 17 years of age and identified as a female.

A document posted on social media was confirmed as authentic by the official. The document describes the name change as occurring in 2020 when the alleged shooter was a minor, and required parental sign-off on the change.

FOX News correspondent Brook Taylor reported that his mother signed off on the name change from “Robert” to “Robin.”

Breitbart News reported that police indicated the alleged shooter used a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun to carry out his attack on the school Wednesday morning. From outside the church, he shot through windows, striking children as they sat in pews during mass. Two children were killed and 17 other individuals were wounded. Click here to read more.

Michigan Rep. offers kids drugs after Michigan Medicine ends ‘gender affirming care’

The University of Michigan on Monday announced it will no longer facilitate sex changes for kids, crediting President Donald Trump’s administration for the decision.

In response, Rep. Carrie Rheingans, D-Ann Arbor, registered her disapproval in a video posted to X.

In the video, the representative declares that “gender affirming care” for children is still legal in Michigan. She adds that such care is still “safe and effective.”

She continues: “If you need to find a new place to get care, it’s still legal to get care here in Michigan, and reach out to our office. We’ll be able to connect you to what may still be available in our community…. We want to make sure you can grow up and thrive here in Michigan.”

Rheingans’ pledge is in response to a federal subpoena received by UM and Michigan Medicine that threatens to withhold federal tax dollars from facilities that offer gender affirming care for minors. Click here to read more.

While People Protest Fossil Fuels in Michigan, Oil Production In U.S. Hits Record Levels

While protesters gathered in Michigan recently in efforts to close a coal plant, fossil fuels are being produced in the U.S. at record levels.

The United States set an all-time record for domestic oil production when it produced 13.48 million barrels of oil per day on average in May. That broke the previous record set a month earlier of 13.46 million barrels of oil per day.

That’s according to the most recent data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. To put that in perspective, the average in May of 2020 during the pandemic lockdowns was 9.71 million barrels of oil per day. In January of 2010, the U.S. was producing 5.40 million barrels of oil per day on average. Michigan produces about 11,000 barrels of oil per day.

Energy experts say the increase in production is due to better technology used while doing hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling techniques. Click here to read more.

DC Mayor Concedes Trump Takeover Has Reduced Crime

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a press conference on Wednesday that the federal surge in the nation’s capital is helping reduce crime.

“We know that we have had fewer gun crimes, fewer homicides, and we have experienced an extreme reduction in carjackings,” Bowser declared at a conference dubbed “Situational Update Federal Surge.”

“This is what we think, in just a couple of weeks of experience, has worked, having more federal law enforcement officers on the street,” Bowser said, admitting that President Donald Trump’s intervention in the nation’s capitol was having its desire effect. Click here to read more.

A Dark Money Group Is Secretly Funding High-Profile Democratic Influencers

In a private group chat in June, dozens of Democratic political influencers discussed whether to take advantage of an enticing opportunity. They were being offered $8,000 per month to take part in a secretive program aimed at bolstering Democratic messaging on the internet.

But the contract sent to them from Chorus, the nonprofit arm of a liberal influencer marketing platform, came with some strings. Among other issues, it mandated extensive secrecy about disclosing their payments and had restrictions on what sort of political content the creators could produce.

In their group chat, influencers debated the details.

“Should we send a joint email (with all of our email addresses) … or, are we just going to send things separately and hope they change everything for everyone?” Laurenzo, a nonbinary creator in Columbus, Ohio, with over 884,000 TikTok followrs, asked the group. Some joked about collective bargaining. “Any Newsies fans here?” Eliza Orlins, a public defender and reality TV star known for her appearances on Survivor, posted in the group. “‘We’re a union just by sayin’ so!’” Click here to read more.

Dem Lawmaker Touts Mutilation of Children as ‘Safe and Effective’

A Democratic state lawmaker took to social media on Tuesday and urged Michigan children to reach out to her office if they want to undergo gender-changing surgery.

Rep. Carrie Rheingans (D-Ann Arbor) urged Michigan children who are confused about their gender to reach out to her office.

Her announcement comes after the University of Michigan stated its health centers would no longer be providing transition surgeries and hormone treatments for minors. “The University of Michigan, including Michigan Medicine, is one of multiple institutions across the country that has received a federal subpoena as part of a criminal and civil investigation into gender-affirming care for minors.

In light of that investigation, and given escalating external threats and risks, we will no longer provide gender affirming hormonal therapies and puberty blocker medications for minors.” Click here to read more.

Illinois lowers standards making more students seem “proficient”

Most Illinois students are struggling to read or do math at grade level on their end of year state assessments. The State Board of Education’s solution? Lower the standards.

The board of education approved a plan to lower the scores needed to be considered proficient in reading and math on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. It also determined the scores needed to be considered proficient in reading and math for 11th graders as the state moves from the SAT to ACT as the state-required assessment for high school students.

The most recent state data available shows only 41% of students in third through eighth grade could read at grade level in 2024 and just 31% in 11th grade. In math, 28% of third through eighth graders were proficient and 26% of 11th graders

New proficiency rates will be implemented on the 2025 Illinois Report card released in October, leaving Illinoisans unable to compare scores to previous years’ proficiency rates.

Lowering proficiency benchmarks will inflate the percentage of students meeting proficiency standards this year and moving forward, but it will do little to improve students’ actual performance in core subjects. Click here to read more.

Users Sue Amazon Prime Video for Removing Media Purchases from Their Library

Users have been “purchasing” media on Prime Video (movies, television shows) only to realize months later that their purchases no longer exists in their media library. That’s because Amazon only sells a limited-time license to its users so that they watch the movie in perpetuity until the company loses the rights.

If the tech giant loses the rights to that version, the movie can be replaced with a different cut, like the one for theaters. And if Amazon loses the rights to the film altogether, it’ll completely disappear from the viewer’s library.

So should Amazon be able to say a consumer is “buying” that movie? Some people don’t think so, and they’ve turned to court.

Filed on Friday in Washington federal court, the class action lawsuit accuses Amazon of doing a “bait and switch” to mislead consumers into a “purchasing” media they do not actually own under false labels.

“On its website and platform, the company tells consumers they can ‘buy’ a movie. But hidden in a footnote on the confirmation page is fine print that says, ‘You receive a license to the video and you agree to our terms,’ the complaint says,'” noted the outlet. Click here to read more.

Federal appeals court says misdated ballots still valid

Ballots returned to county election offices with incorrect or missing dates still count as valid, according to a federal opinion issued Tuesday.

A three-panel judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit said Pennsylvania’s mandate that mail-in votes with dating errors must be set aside violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments.

The unanimous decision found that leaning on dates to “back stop” failures with the Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors, or SURE, “betrays a misunderstanding of Pennsylvania’s election laws.”

“While the Commonwealth has raised legitimate interests related to voting, we see only tangential links, at best, between these interests and the date requirement that Pennsylvania imposes on mail-in voters,” the panel wrote. “The date requirement does not play a role in election administration, nor does it contribute an added measure of solemnity beyond that created by a signature. And only in the exceedingly rare circumstance does it contribute to the prosecution of voter fraud.” Click here to read more.

School bus monitor sent to the ER with bite marks after being attacked by a student and her mom

A school bus monitor in Louisiana was sent to the emergency room after she was allegedly attacked by a student and her mother.

The attack was caught on camera.

It happened on Thursday on an Orleans Parish school bus.

Video shows a McDonogh 35 High School student and her mother beating the bus monitor, who appears to fight back.

The bus monitor’s husband, Johnny Jackson, said she was sent to the emergency room with multiple injuries, including bite marks.

“What’s happening with our youth? How disrespectful our youth have become ... and rebellious,” Jackson said.

Jackson said the student and her mother attacked his wife, Tamika Jackson, while she was working her shift as a monitor on the school bus. Click here to read more.

Jocelyn Benson refuses to give info about illegal 2024 voters — so a Washtenaw County resident is suing

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson admitted numerous illegal ballots were cast in the 2024 election, but her Bureau of Elections refuses to come clean with taxpayers on the details.

“We are the citizens, and we have a right to know the details supporting Secretary Benson’s public statement that only 15 noncitizens voted,” Washtenaw County resident Judi Bennett told the Michigan Fair Elections Institute.

Bennett filed a public information request in April for information on noncitizen voting in 2024, but her request was rejected in less than 24 hours. She’s now pursuing the information through the court system.

Bennett’s Freedom of Information Act request was spawned by Benson’s acknowledgement days earlier that her department identified 15 noncitizens who voted in 2024 through a cross-reference between voting and driver’s license data. Click here to read more.

Hormones on the House? Trans Illegal Immigrant’s Attorney Thinks Michigan Taxpayers Should Foot the Bill

What started as a simple traffic stop on I-94 turned into a full-blown immigration saga when Romulus police contacted Border Patrol after pulling over “Alexa,” a trans immigrant from Honduras living in Ypsilanti without legal status.

Instead of paying a fine for speeding, the trans illegal immigrant posing as a woman but born as a biological man, found himself in federal custody. He was first held under the glaring lights of a Border Patrol cell, then shipped to county jails, including in Ohio, where his attorney alleges mistreatment and discrimination.

According to a report from the Detroit Free Pres, Alexa’s attorney, Ruby Robinson of the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, insists her client was denied “appropriate gender-affirming care,” specifically hormone treatments, while in custody. The attorney further alleges that her client was groped and assaulted after being denied housing with female detainees, forced to sleep under constant lighting, deprived of regular shower access or a blanket, and denied timely access to an interpreter in Ohio, despite Spanish being his only language. Trump Admin Isn’t Going to Let Companies ‘Memory Hole’ DEI Violations

Companies won’t get away with sweeping past discrimination against employees under the rug, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission acting Chair Andrea Lucas told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an interview.

Lucas sat down with the Daily Caller News Foundation to discuss ongoing efforts to defend religious liberty, push back against diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and protect women’s spaces in the workplace.

“A lot of companies want to just sort of ‘memory hole’ what happened from 2020 to 2024,” Lucas told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“You don’t get to do that,” she said. “There’s a cost to your bad behavior. And we’re going to exact that cost, one way or the other, because we’re going to remedy victims who were harmed.” Click here to read more.

Florida bolsters crackdown on commercial drivers who can’t speak English after deadly incident

LIVE OAK, Fla. – Officials in Florida are cracking down on commercial drivers who can’t speak English proficiently after a recent deadly incident involving an illegal immigrant driver.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced last week that a federal investigation into a deadly truck crash in Florida found the driver, an illegal alien, failed a required English language proficiency assessment.

Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson said the state will enforce the presiden’ts April executive order requiring English proficiency for commercial drivers.

“Today we are putting people who break the law on notice. If you come through these stations and you are an illegal or breaking the law, you will be handed over to our local or federal partners,” Simpson said.

Simpson said the state currently has 23 interdiction stations, and an additional station is being added at U.S. Highway 231. Click here to read more.
