LANSING, Mich - Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s MI Healthy Climate plan assumes that 2 million electric vehicles will drive on Michigan roads by 2030, contributing to a reduction in tailpipe emissions.
So far, 46,792 EVs have been registered in Michigan. The state has completed 2.3% of its 2030 registration goal, with 1.95 million left. To reach that goal, Michiganders must register more than 29,000 EVs monthly for 67 months.
Michigan targets 23% of its 8.6 million vehicles to be EVS by 2030.
As of 2018, Michigan’s transportation sector accounted for 28% of the state’s total greenhouse gas emissions. Click here to read more.
CHICAGO, IL - Surging immigration is keeping inflation and interest rates high, Fed honcho Neel Kashkari said in an interview with the Telegraph.
Kashkari, who runs the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, said he’s not ready to consider cutting rates until he sees “several months of real progress on inflation.” The flood of immigrants, he argued, is hindering that progress.
U.S. borrowing costs are likely to stay put for “an extended period of time,” Kashkari warned.
He’s particularly freaked out by the booming demand for housing, which just won’t cool off despite sky-high rates.
Kashkari’s immigration bombshell runs directly contrary to the claims by the Biden administration and its allies that surging immigration is keeping down inflation by depressing wages. Click here to read more.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Liberty Counsel requested an explanation this week from Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn after a letter sent last month accused the district of discrimination against Cooper City Church for unconstitutionally removing the church’s sponsorship sign from Cooper City High School.
“Removing the church’s sign for this reason and in this manner violates the First Amendment and its Free Speech, Free Exercise of Religion, and Establishment Clauses, as well as both Florida law and U.S. Supreme Court precedent,” the Liberty Counsel said in a release. Click here to read more.
CLAREMONT, CALIF - A conservative college professor was investigated by his school for alleged racism after he accused a black student of plagiarism.
Claremont McKenna College professor William Ascher spent a year as the target of a racism investigation launched after a black student the professor accused of plagiarism filed a discrimination complaint. While the investigation took place between December 2022 and December 2023, the details only recently came to light in an article for The Claremont Independent, the school’s campus newspaper. DETOIT, Mich - A group of nearly 500 people has asked the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to halt its controversial I-375 Reconnecting Communities project.
In a May letter to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan issued this month, the ReThink I-375 Coalition expressed “grave concern in the manner in which the project.” The effort would essentially convert the freeway, much of which is underground, into a street-level six-lane boulevard.
“We are opposed to the current project as presented by MDOT and the city of Detroit,” the letter reads in part. “We urge you to insist that MDOT’s work immediately halt so that a more legitimate process can be developed.”
The letter was signed by area businesses and nonprofits, as well as area residents. Most of them are Detroiters, but signees who reside in other Southeast Michigan cities such as Livonia, Harper Woods, Ann Arbor, Monroe and Plymouth, also signed the letter. Click here to read more.
