LANSING, MICH - On Monday, The Midwesterner reported on Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s crusade against so-called “election misinformation.”
On Tuesday, a letter was shared with The Midwesterner that indicates Benson is willing to put teeth into her threats by bringing the prosecutorial power wielded by Michigan Attorney General’s office under Dana Nessel to challenge what they consider such “misinformation.”
The letter addresses social media posts by a Ross Township resident who claims the township did not let residents know within the legally required 60 days that they had changed voting locations.
That same resident received a cease and desist letter from Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office above AG Criminal Trials Division Chief Robbin N. Liddell’s signature that claimed: the individual in question is “in violation of Michigan election law.” Click here to read more.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Kamala Harris picked Minnesota governor Tim Walz as her running mate. It was a surprise that she didn’t go with Josh Shapiro, the popular governor of the must-have battleground state of Pennsylvania.
But there was a very public pressure campaign against Shapiro based on the fact that he’s a Jewish supporter of Israel who has criticized pro-Hamas protesters. Shapiro also projects a pragmatic image and departed from progressive orthodoxy by flirting with Republicans on school vouchers, another unforgivable offense. On top of this, one of Pennsylvania’s senators, John Fetterman, loathes him and worked to knife him in public and private.
It’s impossible to know how much the critique of the anti-Israel Left affected Harris’s decision, but her choice is exactly what you’d expect of a candidate afraid to cross the party’s young activist base. Click Here to read more.

NEW YORK, NY - A new White House plan unveiled Tuesday calls for capping rents at 5% per year on landlords who own more than 50 units. Here’s why it likely won’t help. President Joe Biden unveiled a proposal Tuesday to take aim at high housing costs, but his call to cap rent increases at 5% per year on large landlords has housing groups concerned. Leaders of these groups, including the National Association of REALTORS®, are speaking out against Biden’s rent cap plan, saying it would ultimately hurt renters.
“NAR opposes misguided attempts to cap or control rental rates,” says NAR President Kevin Sears. “Price controls may seem appealing, but they have backfired on local governments and harmed the people we need to help the most. Developers are reluctant to build in areas where the government imposes rent controls on new buildings, and these policies actually decrease the supply of low- to mid-range housing units.” Click here to read more.

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF - An illegal immigrant that then-San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris released from custody after police caught him driving without a license went on to kill a young law student months later with his car, the Washington Free Beacon reported on Tuesday.
Harris’ office dropped charges against Roberto Galo in June 2010 after he was stopped by police for driving the wrong way down a one-way road and arrested for operating a vehicle without a license, according to the Free Beacon. Months later, in November 2010, he slammed his car into 25-year-old law student Drew Rosenberg after making a left-hand turn at a yellow light, driving his car over his body multiple times in an apparent attempt to escape. CHICAGO, IL - Job cuts and unemployment rates are going up in Illinois, while workers’ wage growth is slowing.
According to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, reports, 1,169 Illinois workers were laid off in July. It marked the third straight month the number of layoffs has increased.
Economist and Everyday Economics podcast host Orphe Divounguy said, aside from the pandemic job loss, the nation’s unemployment rate is now higher than it’s been since February 2018, barring pandemic months.
“Hiring continued to slow, employment increased less than expected. Basically, I think recession fears are starting to creep up,” Divounguy said.
