GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association (MRLA) is warning that one in five restaurants could close after the Michigan Supreme Court issued a ruling that eliminated the tip credit for servers and bartenders and opted for paying them a minimum wage.
The MRLA met with lawmakers in Grand Rapids and asked them to try to prevent the change from taking effect in February. The state Supreme Court ruled this summer that the 2018 then-Republican controlled legislature violated the law by adopting and amending a ballot proposal to raise the minimum wage and eliminate the tip credit. SOLINGEN, Germany — A Syrian man on Sunday was ordered held on suspicion of murder and membership in a terrorist organization in connection with the Solingen knife attack that left three dead and eight wounded at a festival marking the city’s 650th anniversary.
A judge at the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe ordered 26-year-old Issa Al H. held pending further investigation and a possible indictment after federal prosecutors said that he shared the radical ideology of the Islamic State extremist group — and was acting on those beliefs when he stabbed his victims repeatedly from behind in the head and upper body.
The ruling came after the suspect turned himself in, saying that he was responsible for the attack, police said. He is also suspected of attempted murder and serious bodily injury, prosecutors said. His last name wasn’t released in line with German privacy rules.
The suspect, wearing handcuffs and leg shackles, was taken Sunday from the police station in Solingen for the initial court appearance. Click here to read more.

PARIS, FRANCE - French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday that the arrest in France of the CEO of the popular messaging app Telegram, Pavel Durov, wasn’t a political move but part of an independent investigation.
Durov was detained Saturday at Le Bourget airport in a judicial inquiry opened last month involving 12 alleged criminal violations, the Paris prosecutor’s office said Monday.
t said in a statement that the suspected violations include complicity in selling child pornography and in drug trafficking, fraud, abetting organized crime transactions and refusing to share information or documents with investigators when required by law.
In France’s first public comment on the arrest, Macron posted on the social media platform X that his country “is deeply committed” to freedom of expression but “freedoms are upheld within a legal framework, both on social media and in real life, to protect citizens and respect their fundamental rights.”
Denouncing what he called false information, Macron said the arrest “is in no way a political decision. It is up to the judges to rule on the matter.” Click here to read more.

WASHINGTON D.C. - NBC News tried and failed to get vice-presidential candidate JD Vance to validate the Democrats’ “family separation” talking point, in the hope he would damage President Donald Trump’s promise to deport illegal migrants.
But host Kristen Welker ignored the reality that President Joe Biden’s administration has permanently separated at least five thousand dead migrants from their families by not enforcing border law since 2021.
Those thousands of migrants have died in jungles, seas, rivers, and worksites, from floods, blizzards, accidents, bandits, and storms. The huge death toll has permanently separated thousands of parents from children, and children from parents, all because Biden dangled the offer of entry into U.S. society. Click here to read more.
