WASHINGTON D.C. - NBC News Meet The Press made a false claim Sunday morning when they said Vice President Kamala Harris attended the dignified transfer of 13 American service members killed due the Afghanistan withdrawal.

The network posted this on Twitter writing they, “implied” Harris was there.

Actually, they did not imply it, they actually said it.

LANSING, Mich - Michigan has spent heavily on early childhood education over the past 20 years, but it has not brought better academic outcomes. While spending increased, student proficiency dropped.

In fiscal year 2000-01, Michigan’s education spending on the School Aid Fund reached $10.8 billion. By fiscal year 2023-24, spending had more than doubled to $21 billion, according to the nonpartisan Senate Fiscal Agency.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer expanded taxpayer funding for preschool in the latest budget.

The move mirrored an earlier expansion of government involvement in early education by former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who formed the Early Childhood Investment Corporation in 2005. Click here to read more.

AURORA, CO - Aurora, Colorado, officials are asking the courts to let them evict Venezuelan migrant gangs from apartment buildings, even as Democrat Gov. Jared Polis keeps dismissing video reports of gang takeovers.

Only two days ago, Polis and his spokespeople were telling Americans to ignore their lying eyes concerning video of armed migrant gangs taking over apartment buildings and forcing citizens to turn their rent money over to the gang. The governor’s spokesman told the media that the reports of armed members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua were a figment of Aurora council member Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination.

The spokesman also slammed local Aurora officials, adding that Polis “really hopes that the city council members in charge stop trashing their own city when they are supposed to keep it safe.” Click here to read more.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The United States military and Iraq launched a joint raid targeting suspected Islamic State group militants in the country’s western desert that killed at least 15 people and left seven American troops hurt, officials said Saturday.

For years after dislodging the militants from their self-declared caliphate across Iraq and Syria, U.S. forces have fought the Islamic State group, though the casualties from this raid were higher than in previous ones.

The U.S. military’s Central Command said the militants were armed with “numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive ‘suicide’ belts” during the raid Thursday, which Iraqi forces said happened in the Anbar Desert. Click here to read more.

CHICAGO, IL - Updated budget forecasts show a $982 million shortfall for the upcoming 2025 budget as Chicago grapples with $223 million remaining deficit this year. Mayor Brandon Johnson refuses to rule out property tax hikes.

Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Office of Budget and Management is projecting the city is facing a $982 million budget shortfall for the upcoming 2025 budget as city leaders are still trying to figure out how to close the $222.9 million shortfall for this year’s budget.

The 2025 Budget Forecast released Aug. 28 included projections for the remaining two years the Johnson administration will oversee the city’s financials. Baseline projections estimate the city’s budget deficit will grow to $1.12 billion in 2026 and $1.32 billion in 2027, but those shortfalls could be as large as $1.58 billion and $1.93 billion. 🚨The Village of Birch Run, Michigan doesn’t record or live stream their public meetings. They’re not legally required to, but I think it would be something good to do for transparency. I talked to the village president who did not want to touch the issue.
