MIDLAND, Mich - For three years, Midland Public Schools has used a discredited reading and writing curriculum.
M-STEP scores for English Language Arts in the Midland district have worsened over time. In 2019. 61.2% of students scored proficient or advanced. But the most recent number was 50.6%. The drop of nearly 11 percentage points is almost twice the drop seen statewide.
The district, in announcing a new reading curriculum in May 2021, said the Lucy Calkins teaching method was “highly respected in the field.”
Midland schools started using the reading and writing curriculum in the 2021-2022 school year. At the time, the district said the Units of Study Program was supported by over 30 years of research. Click here to read more.
BOSTON — A dozen Tufts University men’s lacrosse players have been diagnosed with a rare muscle injury after participating in a voluntary, supervised 45-minute workout that the team conducted, a university spokesperson said Friday.
Five of the players who have been diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis remained hospitalized Friday, according to Patrick Collins director of media relations for the school.
“Our thoughts are with the players and their families, and we are hoping for their quick return to good health under the care of local medical experts,” Collins said in a written statement. Click here to read more.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz said prior to the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, the Department of Homeland Security said there are five “known assassination teams” allegedly targeting Trump in the U.S.
On Real America’s Voice, Gaetz said a senior official from the DHS came to his office before the second assassination attempt on Trump, saying that he has assessed the existence of five known assassination teams in the U.S., three “inspired by other governments,” and two that are “known domestic assassination teams.”
“This individual was coming to me concerned that the force protection around President Trump, even prior to that second assassination attempt, was not sufficient for what it needed to be,” Gaetz said.
“And the coordination at that level, at the dignitary protection level, is like the bare minimum that we have to do to keep our presidents, our presidential candidates, safe while they’re on the trail,” he continued. Click here to read more.
LOUISVILLE, KY - Kentucky governor Andy Beshear’s new executive order banning so-called conversion therapy could be used to criminalize the traditional watchful-waiting approach to gender dysphoria, pushing minors who are confused about their gender toward irreversible medical procedures.
Historically, the term “conversion therapy” referred to efforts to change a person’s sexual orientation through therapy, usually administered by religious or spiritual leaders or, in other cases, by licensed health-care professionals. But the term has been inflated in recent years to include any approach to gender dysphoria in which the mental-health professional does not immediately affirm the child’s stated gender identity. NEW YORK - New York City's former COVID czar Dr. Jay Varma was caught on hidden camera bragging about attending drug-fueled sex parties with his wife during the pandemic.
Varma — who served as senior health advisor to then-Mayor Bill de Blasio during the height of the pandemic, talked about hosting orgies with his wife and attending underground dance parties with more than 200 people.
The videos that were released Thursday, reportedly came from secretly-recorded conversations with an undercover operative from conservative podcaster Steven Crowder’s "Mug Club."
Varma doesn't deny that he partied during the pandemic, but says that his shocking comments were taken out of context.
"I had to be kind of sneaky about it… because I was running the entire COVID response in the city," Varma says in one clip.
