MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Minneapolis, Minnesota, has sworn in its first police officer who is not a U.S. citizen, according to reports.
The Minnesota Police Dept. has reported that Lesly Vera, a native of Somalia, was sworn in on Thursday as the department’s first non-citizen officer. Vera was seen at the swearing-in ceremony wearing a hijab over her head as she took the oath of office and received her badge.
Vera moved to Minneapolis with her parents from their arrival point in Mexico when she was four. She is a legal resident alien and authorized to work, but is not a U.S. citizen.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara defended the idea of giving police powers to a non-citizen. Click here to read more.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida Democratic Rep. Maxwell Frost on Thursday used deadly, major Hurricane Helene to advocate for “climate crisis” policies.
Frost sent the post out around 10 p.m. ET Thursday, just before the hurricane made landfall. So far, Gov. Ron DeSantis has confirmed two fatalities in Florida.
“The Climate Crisis is here,” Frost said over the radar loop of Helene. “We must act to save lives.”
“Climate crisis” policies include ideas such as those in the “Green New Deal,” which involves phasing out fossil fuels by government mandate, enacting strict carbon emission regulations and more.
Frost officially endorses the “Green New Deal” on his congressional website. Click here to read more.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed a landmark bill aimed at establishing first-in-the-nation safety measures for large artificial intelligence models Sunday.
The decision is a major blow to efforts attempting to rein in the homegrown industry that is rapidly evolving with little oversight. The bill would have established some of the first regulations on large-scale AI models in the nation and paved the way for AI safety regulations across the country, supporters said.
Earlier this month, the Democratic governor told an audience at Dreamforce, an annual conference hosted by software giant Salesforce, that California must lead in regulating AI in the face of federal inaction but that the proposal "can have a chilling effect on the industry."
The proposal, which drew fierce opposition from startups, tech giants and several Democratic House members, could have hurt the homegrown industry by establishing rigid requirements, Newsom said. Click here to read more.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) ripped Vice President Kamala Harris over the chaos that the Biden-Harris administration has unleashed not only on the rest of the world, but also domestically with its disastrous immigration policy.
Cotton made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” while discussing new numbers that were released last week by federal immigration officials about the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. who have been convicted of specific crimes.
“I just want to say, the chaos that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have unleashed across this world isn’t limited to the other side of the world. It happens right here,” Cotton said. “The administration just acknowledged that they released more than 13,000 convicted murderers who illegally entered this country. More than 15,000 convicted sex offenders.” Click here to read more.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Two Mexican drug cartels are primarily responsible for flooding the United States with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 80 times stronger than morphine that’s killing over 200 Americans daily, authorities say.
The Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels have established a sophisticated supply chain, sourcing precursor chemicals from China and manufacturing fentanyl in clandestine Mexican labs before smuggling it across the U.S. border, according to Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reports.
No substance comes close to the death toll caused by fentanyl. It claims over 200 lives every day – that’s the equivalent of a full airplane crashing daily. Click here to read more.
