BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Voter rights advocates and residents are raising questions about access to mail-in ballot applications in Bucks County following reports that police officers physically blocked the doors to the county election office, preventing voters from applying for on-demand mail-in ballots late Monday afternoon.
Videos circulating on social media show officers blocking access to the office around 4:38 p.m., even though the cut-off for submitting mail-in ballot applications was advertised as 5 p.m. According to witnesses, some individuals who arrived before the deadline were reportedly turned away or advised to submit their applications through other means. Charis Edwards, an independent journalist on the scene, captured footage showing frustrated voters being stopped from entering by law enforcement. Click here to read more.

CHICAGO, IL - A parental rights group is demanding that federal officials investigate an Illinois school district over hiring policies that it says may be discriminating based on race.
Parents Defending Education Vice President Caroline Moore sent a letter earlier this month asking the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to open up an inquiry into Community Unit School District 300 in Algonquin, Illinois, over its hiring policies. The demand for an investigation comes after the parental rights group obtained a number of diversity, equity, and inclusion documents from the district through a public records request.
“Community Unit School District 300 has adopted a strategic plan to hire, retain, and establish a diverse staff, which establishes certain hiring practices for teachers of color in the District. This policy promotes race-based hiring and educator retention in the District,” Moore wrote to the EEOC. “Community Unit School District 300 cannot discriminate based on race or sex in employment decisions.” Click here to read more.

Former President Donald Trump unveiled a new proposal on Tuesday, pledging to establish a “compensation fund” for victims of migrant crime in the United States.
Speaking to the public during a press conference at Mar-a-Largo, Trump highlighted the growing threat of Tren de Aragua and other international crime syndicates being imported into the U.S. through mass illegal immigration. “Today, I’m announcing that for the first time, under my administration, we will be seizing the assets of the criminal gangs and drug cartels, and we will use those assets to create a compensation fund to provide restitution for the victims of migrant crime,” Trump said. “And the government will help in the restitution.”
“But something has to be done, and we’re going to get it done,” he continued. Click here to read more.

WASHINGTON — Two months after33-year-old Nilzuly Arneaud Petit of Texas was kidnapped and killed, three suspected membersof a Venezuelan street gang were arrested while a fourth suspect remains at large.
The gang, Tren de Aragua, has been making headlines for months, linked to a police beating in New York City and an apartment complex takeover in Aurora, Colorado.
Former top border officials are warning of the gang’s rapid organization on U.S. soil.
That’s what makes TDA more shockingly terrifying and it makes it harder for law enforcement because they are so organized right out of the gate. We’re playing catch up already," saidMark Morgan, Former Acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Vice President Kamala Harris vowed to crack down on illegal border crossers during a September 27 speech near the southern border.
“Those who cross our border unlawfully will be apprehended and removed and barred from re-entering for five years," she said.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich - “The climate change crisis is one of the City’s top priorities,” the city of Grand Rapids says, and it is developing a plan to act on that belief.
The draft of the climate action and adaptation plan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage electrification. It has six chapters: Energy (more solar use), Healthy Homes (less electric use; income-based electric rates), Commercial buildings (less energy use), Transportation (more carpooling and cycling, denser developments), Natural Systems (more trees and rain gardens), and Food systems (more urban agriculture and composting, less food in trash).
Public comment is open through Oct. 31, 2024. The city expects to release a full draft plan in December.
The plan has as its benchmark the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by municipal operations in 2008, with the goal of an 85% reduction by 2030 and a 100% reduction by 2040.
The plan will try to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions by 62.8% per capita by 2030, with 2019 as the benchmark. It calls for a 100% per capita reduction by 2050, according to Interim Chief Sustainability Officer Annabelle Wilkinson. Click link to read more.
