The Livonia Schools released the following statement:
t has come to our attention that many false rumors are circulating on social media and within our community regarding the circumstances surrounding the recent termination of the Franklin High School Wrestling Coach.

Simply stated, social media commentary has painted an inaccurate and misinformed depiction of the situation. Accusations suggesting that the termination decision was premised, in any way, on the handling of supports for a transgender student-athlete have been spread without any ...

Michigan library leaves X (Twitter) for Bluesky
LIbrary says the decision is not political

YPSILANTI, Mich - The Ypsilanti, Michigan Public Library announced on Facebook they are leaving X (Twitter).

This is the reason they gave:

Bluesky has quickly emerged as a fast-growing platform, which is why we have chosen to de-prioritize X now, but in truth, we probably should have migrated from X sooner and prioritized a platform like Threads, LinkedIn, or Snapchat. If it was cost-free to continue to post to X without taking the time to separately share dozens of posts a week with a shrinking audience, we would continue to do so. If we expand to 10 platforms, we will add X back into the mix. But as we've explained, our social media management tool allows us to connect to up to 3 social media platforms at once, and right now our efforts to reach the community are most effective on Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky. We've had more interaction with patrons on Bluesky in the last 24 hours than we have in the last 12-14 months on X, so this is the best social media strategy for us for now.

Facebook users aren’t buying the libraries explanation of the exit from X (twitter).

Others agree with the move, agreeing with the library that this move is not political.

Twitter, now rebranded as X by owner Elon Musk, continues to divide public opinion, with its evolving policies and business strategies sparking heated debate. Once a platform hailed for amplifying voices worldwide, its recent changes under new ownership have prompted both praise and criticism.

Supporters of the platform argue that its shift toward prioritizing free speech and reducing content moderation is a necessary correction to perceived censorship.

Critics on the left argue that Twitter has not done enough to curb hate speech, misinformation, and harassment, especially against marginalized communities.

What is BlueSky?

Bluesky was initially conceived as a project within Twitter in 2019, with the goal of creating a decentralized standard for social media. It became an independent organization in 2021.

Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey has been a prominent advocate for Bluesky and its decentralized approach.

Unlike traditional platforms, which are controlled by a single company, Bluesky allows users to host their own servers and interact across a network of servers. This decentralization aims to reduce centralized control and censorship.

As controversies around Twitter have grown, including its policy changes and rebranding as X, Bluesky has been viewed as a potential competitor or alternative.

HARRISBURG, PA - The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is ordering Boards of Elections throughout the state to follow its previous rulings and not count “mail-in and absentee ballots that fail to comply” with the state election code.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued its ruling on Monday, as elections board officials in Bucks County, in particular, have defied Pennsylvania Supreme Court precedent and moved to count ballots that the court has determined cannot be counted.

WASHINGTON D.C. - South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace is following up her Capitol Hill bathroom legislation with yet another bill protecting women’s spaces — this time, banning men who identify as transgender women from using women’s facilities on any federal property.

Mace’s bill, the “Protecting Women’s Private Spaces Act,” was obtained exclusively on Wednesday morning by The Daily Wire. It will “prohibit individuals from accessing or using single-sex facilities on federal property other than those corresponding to their biological sex.” It forbids anyone from accessing facilities on federal property that do not correspond with their biological sex, and it provides precise definitions of what it means to be female or male.

Mace sparked a backlash this week when she introduced a bill banning trans-identifying men from women’s bathrooms or facilities on Capitol Hill. The resolution specifically states that “allowing biological males into single-sex facilities, such as restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms designed for women, jeopardizes the safety and dignity of members, officers, and employees of the House who are female.” Click here to read more.

LANSING, Mich - A Democratic plan to end cash bail in Michigan is so extreme that even Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel, a former civil rights attorney, opposes it.

The House Criminal Justice Committee is considering House Bills 4655, 4656, 4658, 4659, 4660 and 4661. The measures were introduced in May 2023 and have new life as Democrats move to push through progressive bills before they lose their trifecta control of state government next year.

If signed into law, the measures would mandate judges to release suspects charged with “low-level” crimes, regardless of the defendant’s background. Judges could not consider a suspect’s criminal history, prior failures to appear in court, the circumstances of their arrest or the potential danger to the community.

“This represents a dangerous shift in how we handle public safety,” state Rep. Graham Filler, R-Duplain Township, said in a release. “The people of Michigan deserve a criminal justice system that prioritizes their safety. These bills would force judges to let certain offenders walk free without bail, even if they pose a clear threat to public safety.” Click here to read more.

LANSING, Mich - Ever wonder what happens to your hard-earned tax dollars? If so, you might want to pour yourself a stiff drink before reading further.

In a recent Ingham County Board of Commissioners meeting, the county’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, its Equal Opportunity Committee, and its Women’s Commission proposed a new expenditure: free menstrual products in all public restrooms, including men’s facilities.

I would be shocked to find a single man in the state who is banging on their government representatives’ doors demanding access to free tampons. But Ingham County’s DEI racket wants to give them tampons anyway—not because men need them, but because it would be discriminatory to assume otherwise. Don’t you know there are men who aren’t actually men!

We used to call those people women, but now they’re just “menstruating individuals,” according to the Ingham County proposal.

The county estimates the proposal will cost up to $32,000. Of course, that number could—and probably will—go up with time, as the proposal itself acknowledges. Ongoing costs will be “determined and adjusted based on utilization,” it says. Click here to read more.

SAGINAW, Mich - A deer crashed through the front window of a Saginaw furniture store, and police had to help lead the deer out.

The incident happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the Gardner White Furniture Store on Tittabawassee Rd.

The Saginaw County Sheriff's Office said the deer was trapped inside the store for about 15 minutes.

You can see body cam footage of Deputy Cameron Helwer and Deputy Evan Johnson working to get the deer, which appeared to be injured, out of the building:

The sheriff's office told WEYI that the deer was let loose and not followed. Click here to watch video.

Biden-Harris administration tells Ukraine they don't have to pay back $4.6 Billion in debt
Critics Blast $4.65 Billion Debt Forgiveness for Ukraine as Misuse of U.S. Taxpayer Funds

WASHINGTON — A recent decision by the U.S. government to forgive $4.65 billion in debt owed by Ukraine has sparked sharp criticism from lawmakers who argue that the move wastes taxpayer money and prioritizes foreign interests over domestic needs.

The debt cancellation, part of the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, forgives 50% of the $9.3 billion in economic assistance previously provided to Ukraine. Critics say the decision comes at a time when many Americans are struggling with rising costs of living and growing concerns over government spending.

I can't continue bringing you independent journalism without your support. For just $5 a month, you can become a paid subscriber and help sustain this work for everyone. You can cancel anytime, but your support makes a difference in keeping this content free and accessible to all.

“This is an insult to every hardworking American,” Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont., said in a statement. “The Department of State just told Ukraine they can keep $4.65 billion in hard-earned taxpayer money they were supposed to pay back. Enough is enough! I am tired of our money being wasted on endless foreign wars.”

Debt Forgiveness Amid Domestic Challenges

The forgiven debt is tied to funds designated for economic support and recovery in Ukraine as the country continues to battle Russian aggression. The U.S. Department of State argued the decision aligns with international efforts to rebuild Ukraine and ensure its financial stability. In September, the U.S. joined more than 30 nations in pledging long-term financial and military support for Ukraine, despite growing domestic pushback.

However, critics say the move highlights misplaced priorities, as the U.S. grapples with its own financial challenges, including a soaring national debt, inflation, and unresolved infrastructure needs. Opponents of the decision argue that billions of dollars in aid and loan forgiveness could be better spent addressing issues at home.

“This is another example of the American taxpayer being forced to foot the bill for foreign policy experiments,” said Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo. “At a time when our own borders, infrastructure, and families need support, why are we giving Ukraine a blank check?”

Supporters Defend Decision

Supporters of the move insist that aiding Ukraine is critical to global security and defending democracy against authoritarian regimes. They argue that failing to support Ukraine could embolden Russia and other adversaries, creating a larger and costlier conflict in the future.

“This isn’t just about Ukraine; it’s about maintaining global stability,” said a State Department spokesperson. “Our commitment to Ukraine is a commitment to democracy, freedom, and long-term peace.”

A Divided Congress

The debt forgiveness is expected to intensify debates in Congress over U.S. involvement in Ukraine and the allocation of foreign aid. With federal spending under scrutiny, critics of the decision are calling for increased transparency and limits on future commitments.

“We cannot continue to spend billions abroad while ignoring our problems at home,” Rosendale said. “Americans deserve to know where their money is going and why.”

The growing divide in Washington underscores a broader debate about America’s role on the global stage and how far it should go to support allies at the expense of domestic priorities. As the 2024 election cycle ramps up, foreign aid is poised to remain a flashpoint in political discourse.
