DETROIT – A Chinese national studying in Wuhan has been arrested and charged with smuggling biological materials into the United States and making false statements to federal officers, U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr. announced Monday.

Chengxuan Han, a citizen of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), was taken into custody at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on June 8. According to a federal complaint, Han is a Ph.D. student at the College of Life Science and Technology at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan, PRC.

Federal investigators allege Han mailed four packages from China in 2024 and 2025 to individuals associated with a University of Michigan laboratory. These packages reportedly contained concealed biological material related to roundworms.

Upon arrival in the U.S. on a J-1 visa, Han was interviewed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers and allegedly lied about the nature of the packages and the materials she had shipped. Authorities say they discovered that Han had deleted data from her electronic device three days before entering the country. During a subsequent interview with the FBI, Han admitted to sending the materials and providing false information to CBP agents.

U.S. Attorney Gorgon called the incident part of a broader concern. “The alleged smuggling of biological materials by this alien from a science and technology university in Wuhan, China—to be used at a University of Michigan laboratory—is part of an alarming pattern that threatens our security,” he said. “The American taxpayer should not be underwriting a PRC-based smuggling operation at one of our crucial public institutions.”

CBP Acting Director of Field Operations John Nowak added, “The guidelines for importing biological materials into the U.S. for research purposes are stringent, but clear. Actions like this undermine the legitimate work of other visiting scholars.”

Jared Murphey, acting Special Agent in Charge at Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Detroit, said the case highlights cross-agency collaboration. “This case should serve as a reminder that multiple law enforcement agencies are working around the clock to provide for our shared national security from malicious foreign actors,” he said.

Han is scheduled to appear in federal court in Detroit Monday afternoon. The FBI, CBP, and HSI are continuing their investigation.

Despite Gunfire and a High-Speed Chase, Police Say New Michigan Laws Stopped Them from Jailing Seventeen-Year-Old

GRAND BLANC, Mich. — A 17-year-old suspect was released Friday following a high-speed police chase that ended with a handgun being thrown from the vehicle and discharging into the car, according to law enforcement officials.

The pursuit occurred June 27 and involved multiple agencies, including the Michigan State Police, Genesee County Sheriff's Department, and police from the cities of Grand Blanc, Flint, Burton, and Davison Township.

Authorities say the juvenile attempted to discard a handgun from the moving vehicle. The firearm discharged into the interior of the car during the attempt. No injuries were reported, and the suspect was taken into custody—but later released.

Law enforcement officials say the release was due to changes in state law. In October 2021, Michigan enacted a “Raise the Age” law that reclassified 17-year-olds as juveniles, meaning they could no longer be lodged in adult county jails. Previously, the suspect would have been held in the Genesee County Jail.

Enemy of Conservation’: Ted Nugent Demands Lawmakers Rein in Michigan DNR

LANSING, Mich. — Outspoken outdoorsman, musician, and conservative activist Ted Nugent delivered a blistering rebuke of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wednesday during testimony before the Michigan House Oversight Committee. Nugent accused the agency of gross overreach, anti-science policies, and targeting hunters and landowners with what he called “insane violations of common sense.”

Nugent, who has spent decades advocating for hunting and conservation, told lawmakers he’s been inundated with stories from across Michigan about what he described as “jackbooted thuggery” by DNR officers.

“Michigan is now the laughingstock of the nation,” Nugent said. “Families are getting tickets because they have a salt block on their farm. That’s insanity. These people enforcing this have no moral compass.”

He cited the state’s enforcement of baiting bans and deer hunting ...

CNN Blames Climate Change, Donald Trump’s Administration For Texas Floods

NEW YORK, NY - CNN anchor Dana Bash suggested that climate change and President Donald Trump’s administration were to blame for the disastrous flash flooding in Texas, asking Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) to weigh in on her assessment.

Castro joined Bash on Sunday morning’s broadcast of “State of the Union” to discuss the tragic situation that was still unfolding after heavy rains caused massive floods along the Guadalupe River in central Texas — where at least 69 have now been confirmed dead.

“How much do you think the changing climate is part of what we are seeing go on here, not just what we’re seeing in the pictures that we’re showing on the screen?” Bash asked. “But even the flood that you talked about in San Antonio in June.” Click here to read more.

Illinois nurse shortage fix is blocked by unions

Special interests again succeeded in keeping Illinois one of the few states that has not joined the Nurse Licensure Compact – a proven solution to health care staffing challenges and greater freedom for nurses wanting to practice in Illinois.

Nurses need just one license to practice in any state that is a member of the compact. Illinois requires nurses to take a test in the state and obtain a license that only allows them to practice in Illinois – leaving patients with fewer options and longer waits, plus leaving nurses with fewer career options and heavier workloads.

House Bill 1706 sponsored by state Rep. Yolonda Morris, D-Chicago, a certified nurse assistant, would have added Illinois to the Nurse Licensure Compact. It failed to make it out of committee for a full House vote this past legislative session, facing opposition from Illinois nursing unions that see the compact as a threat to their power. Baltimore police arrest juveniles, including 10-year-old, in armed robbery at bus stop

A man was robbed and assaulted by a group of juveniles and one adult in a stolen car, with the youngest person being a 10-year-old male, Baltimore police announced on Sunday.

Officials reported that on July 5 at around 8:24 p.m., police responded to an armed robbery at 1100 East Northern Parkway.

Once there, officials say they spoke with the victim, who stated that he was waiting at a bus stop when a maroon vehicle passed by. A short time later, two males and two females approached the victim, stating "Give me your phone," then proceeded to assault the man, take his backpack, and then leave the scene in the maroon vehicle.

The Aviation Unit, which operates helicopters, known as 'Foxtrot,' was requested and began searching the area when they located the maroon vehicle at the 1300 block of Gorsuch Avenue, officials said.

Units responded to that location and detained five suspects who were a 10-year-old male, two 13-year-old females, a 14-year-old male, and a 32-year-old male, according to police. Click here to read more.

How Hunter Biden Helped Derail His Father’s Reelection

June 2024 was going to be a momentous month for Joe Biden’s presidency: trips to France and Italy, a star-studded fundraiser in Los Angeles with Barack Obama, George Clooney and Julia Roberts, and the first debate against Donald Trump. But there was another matter at the top of the president’s mind. As Biden confided to a close friend, “The only thing I care about is that my son is not convicted.”

On June 3, Hunter Biden reported to a federal courthouse in Wilmington, Del., to face three felony charges for lying on a federal firearms application and possessing a gun while abusing drugs. Beyond the danger to Hunter’s liberty, the trial was sure to embarrass the Biden family, airing sordid secrets from the painful years after Hunter’s brother Beau Biden died of cancer.

Much of the public was unaware of the depths of turmoil within the Biden family—affairs, addiction, alcoholism—and now it would all spill out, five months before the election. To prove Hunter Biden was abusing drugs when he purchased the gun, prosecutors planned to call three star witnesses: his ex-girlfriend, whom he met when she was a stripper; his ex-wife, the mother of three of his daughters; and Beau’s widow, with whom he started a romantic relationship after his brother’s death. White Men No Longer Allowed at Lockheed Martin

Young white men are being persecuted for crimes they did not commit. Though history is rife with examples of white men enslaving and harming others, that is also true of the entire species.

There is nothing uniquely evil about white men. However, Lockheed Martin, one of the nation’s largest defense contractors, thinks otherwise.

Lockheed Martin doesn’t care about the fact that the white men it refuses to hire are perfectly innocent. The defense industry powerhouse is ignoring white men simply because that class of people has had the upper hand throughout history.

The suppression of white men, especially those 40 and under, is a large part of the reason why Donald Trump is back in power.

The Don’s return to the Oval Office in non-consecutive terms is rare. Only Grover Cleveland has accomplished the political feat.

White men identify with Trump as he projects strength as the nation’s leading patriarch. Trump has made no secret of the fact that his fellow white men have been ostracized from society and the workplace. Click here to read more.

State records reveal little SNAP enforcement despite exploding fraud

Michigan authorities have considered filing criminal charges against 432 people for alleged food stamp fraud since 2020, according to documents obtained through a records request to the attorney general’s office. An expert on financial security says the number suggests lax enforcement.

Over 1.4 million Michiganders with low incomes purchase food through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps. Money from the program is loaded onto state-issued Bridge cards, which recipients can use at approved vendors, such as grocery stores.

Food stamp fraud in Michigan jumped nearly 400% between 2023 and 2024, according to documents Michigan Capitol Confidential obtained under the state's Freedom of Information Act. But the number of cases opened remained the same: 110 or 111. Click here to read more.

Waste of the Day: Covid Loans For 11-Year-Olds

WASHINGTON D.C. - A weekly allowance or a lemonade stand are great ways to teach young kids how to manage their money. A loan from the Small Business Administration is not.

Yet according to the DOGE, the SBA issued 5,593 loans in 2020 and 2021 worth $312 million to businesses whose listed owners were 11 years old or younger. Either America’s children have suddenly become expert entrepreneurs or, more likely, another round of fraud from the Covid-19 pandemic has been uncovered.

DOGE also claimed that the SBA gave 3,095 loans worth $333 million to borrowers who were listed as 115 years or older, bringing the total age-related fraud to $645 million. Click here to read more.

Kids, underage teens face dangerous risks utilizing AI chat bots, new study reveals

SPOKANE, Wash. - A lot of kids and teenagers are turning to AI social companions these days without realizing they come with very serious risks.

These are much different than AI tools like Chat GPT, which answer questions or complete requests. AI social companions are designed to simulate real relationships and form emotional connections with users.

"It's definitely a fast moving and growing space," said Robbie Torney, Common Sense Media's Senior Director of AI Programs.

A recent report from Common Sense Media says these social companions, like Character.AI, Replika and Nomi, pose unacceptable risks for anyone under the age of 18.

"They are designed to create emotional attachment that's harmful for developing brains," explained Torney. "And teens who are vulnerable and may be struggling to maintain boundaries could really get into tricky situations with real dire, real world impacts." Click here to read more.

America Has Plenty of Experience With Government-Run Stores, and It Isn't Pretty

In the recently concluded Democratic primary for New York City mayor, state Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani emerged victorious, beating out former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, among others, for the nomination.

One proposal that galvanized both supporters and opponents was Mamdani's plan to open five city-owned grocery stores—one in each borough. In a campaign video, he called the stores a "public option" like in health care; he said they would not pay rent or property taxes, they would "operate without a profit motive," and their "mission [would be] lower prices, not price gouging." (As of January 2025, the grocery industry's average net profit margin was under 2 percent.)

Some have come to Mamdani's defense, saying city-owned grocery stores are not as radical as they sound—in fact, some states already have them, without becoming socialist hellscapes. Some have compared this plan to states that control liquor sales. But in each case, the comparison is unflattering to Mamdani's proposal. Click here to read more.

It took the jury just two hours to reach a verdict following a two-day trial that pit the former allies against each other, with Lamar-Silvia arguing the evidence against her is circumstantial, and Eggleston alleging he had nothing to do with the forged signatures on his nominating petition for city council. Father defends right to build go-kart track for son on his property

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) – A Maryland father is in court defending the go-kart track he built on his property for his son.

Unhappy neighbors and environmental concerns are hindering the track’s use and permit approval.

Sang Oh, Chris Siperko’s attorney, called up two experts: Robert Vogel, a civil engineer and Jeffrey Straw, a vibration and acoustic consultant.

Oh and the experts shared why Siperko’s conditional use application for his go-kart race track should be approved, going over the standards under Howard County code, like noise and odors.

Vogel said the fumes released into the air by the track should not be an issue.

G. Macy Nelson, the lawyer representing Siperko’s neighbors, honed in on the environmental impact of the track.

“This is a paved track, over a dirt track maybe we would look at that, but this is a paved track,” he said.

He noted the existing track is on wetlands and that the track could potentially encroach on neighboring properties. Click here to read more.
