Why is it so much more expensive to build things than it used to be? Dollars get you less than they used to, but inflation doesn’t fully explain why building the Mackinac Bridge cost about $1 billion dollars in today’s money, while the I-75 modernization project is already above $1.4 billion. Or why the Golden Gate Bridge cot $35 billion ($800 million today) in 1933, while the safety net alone installed under the bridge in 2017 cost $224 million.

Woman Found Dead at Disney’s Pop Century Resort Is Fourth Death in a Month
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is informing the public of yet another death linked to a Disney property, saying “a woman in her 40s was transported to the hospital, where she passed away.”
“There were no signs of foul play,” the sheriff’s office told Fox News. Media reports say police found the woman at the Pop Century Resort, which is located near Epcot and Hollywood Studios.
This woman’s death follows a string a Disney resort-related fatalities, including the death of three people whose bodies were all found in a 10-day span in October. Click here to read more.

Two members of the Democratic Socialists of America will serve on the Detroit City Council, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election.
Voters re-elected incumbent Gabriela Santiago-Romero with about 63% of the vote over state Rep. Tyrone Carter, D-Detroit, with 36% in District 6, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Santiago-Romero, who told the Michigan Chronicle in July she’s a due-paying member of the DSA, focused on creating a Violence Prevention and Community Care Office with a focus on reducing gun violence, while also promoting lower housing costs, workers’ rights, environmental justice and “expanding people’s rights,” according to her campaign website. Secretary Hegseth announces U.S. strike on narco-trafficking vessel near Venezuela
WASHINGTON — Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced Friday that U.S. forces carried out a lethal strike on a narco-trafficking vessel affiliated with designated terrorist organizations, killing four terrorists off the coast of Venezuela.
Hegseth said the strike was ordered by President Donald Trump and executed in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility. He said the vessel was operating in international waters and transporting “substantial amounts of narcotics” bound for the United States.
“Four male narco-terrorists aboard the vessel were killed in the strike, and no U.S. forces were harmed in the operation,” Hegseth said. Click here to read more.
Geography teacher placed on leave after showing students how to use AI tool in ‘sexually inappropriate way,’ report says
CELINA, Texas – A high school teacher in Texas has been placed on leave after showing freshman students how to use an AI tool in a “sexually inappropriate way,” according to a local report.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Celina High School wrestling coach and geography teacher Neil Phillips was recently placed on leave after allegations surfaced of inappropriate conduct at a previous job with another district.
The investigation began when a video was recently posted on social media allegedly showed Phillips instructing students on how to use an AI tool in a “sexually inappropriate way,” The Dallas Morning News reports.
The alleged incident took place while Phillips was working at a school in the Melissa Independent School District. Click here to read more.
