New IRS data shows wealth fleeing high tax states as Gretchen Whitmer pushes to tax Michiganders another $800 million
New domestic migration data from the Internal Revenue Service is revealing the negative impact of high taxes at a time when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer wants to dial up dollars collected from Michiganders by $800 million.
The data from 2022-23 released last week shows wealthy Americans are taking their money to low- or no-income tax states, with Michigan among the top 10 states they’re fleeing.
An analysis by Unleash Prosperity found Florida leading states for net gain in adjusted gross income with $20.6 billion flowing into the Sunshine State in 2022-23, followed by Texas at $5.5 billion, South Carolina at $4.1 billion, North Carolina at $3.9 billion, Arizona and Tennessee at $2.8 billion, Nevada at $1.5 billion, Idaho at $1 billion, New Hampshire at $0.8 billion, and Georgia at $0.7 billion. FBI Misled Court To Spy on Second Trump Campaign Adviser
Carter Page wasn’t the only adviser from Trump’s first campaign wiretapped by the FBI. Walid Phares was electronically monitored for a 12-month period between 2017 and 2018, according to the Washington-based FBI agent who was assigned to investigate him as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia collusion probe.
As in Page’s case, the bureau withheld evidence exonerating Phares from the court to secure surveillance authorization, according to newly declassified FBI documents.
“I had no idea any of this was happening,” Phares told RealClearInvestigations in an exclusive interview Wednesday night. “This is shocking because they told my lawyer that I was only a ‘witness’ and that they just needed some information.”
“But these were huge abuses that I can see now,” he added. Phares said he intends to sue the FBI and Justice Department for damages. Click here to read more.
House Oversight launches investigation into alleged fraud in California hospice programs
The House Oversight Committee launched an investigation Monday into allegations of rampant taxpayer fraud in California’s hospice programs, which it argued that Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office has been aware of for the past four years.
President Donald Trump signaled last year that California would be the next state his administration investigates when it comes to fraud, after an investigation in Minnesota found that fraudsters targeted the state’s food assistance program, daycare facilities and medical programs.
House Oversight Republicans accused Newsom of failing to prevent and detect fraud in his state’s hospice system, despite state audit reports indicating fraud in the programs, and is requesting documents and communications regarding California’s oversight and internal controls to detect and prevent fraud for its federally funded hospice programs. Venezuelan migrant charged in murder of Loyola student misses court due to hospitalization
CHICAGO - A Venezuelan migrant accused of gunning down a Loyola University freshman did not appear in court Monday for his detention hearing due to being hospitalized.
Jose Medina, 25, allegedly shot and killed 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman early Thursday while she was walking with friends near Tobey Prinz Beach in Rogers Park, according to Chicago police.
Medina was masked when he approached the group and began shooting in their direction on the beach’s pier, striking Gorman in the back as she tried to flee. Gorman died at the scene.
Authorities said witness accounts, surveillance video and forensic evidence helped identify Medina as the suspect. Witnesses described the gunman as wearing all black with a mask and noted his distinct slow gait and limp. Click here to read more.
Meth-Smoking Illegal Alien Accused of Slitting Woman’s Throat in Salt Lake City
An illegal alien is accused of choking a woman and then slitting her throat while he was high on meth in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Jesus Alejandro Ramirez-Padilla, a 30-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, among other charges.
According to police, Ramirez-Padilla was smoking meth with a woman when he began thinking about murdering someone. The illegal alien allegedly told police that he decided he would try to kill the woman.
Police allege that Ramirez-Padilla choked the woman from behind until she fell on the ground. The illegal alien allegedly continued choking the woman before slashing her throat more than once. The woman, found by police in an alley, was rushed to a nearby hospital and is recovering from her injuries. Click here to read more.
