CHICAGO, IL - When the Democratic National Convention nominates Vice President Kamala Harris in Chicago, they’ll tout education policies near a school where zero students can read at grade level.
A major point of the party platform is “every child deserves a quality, affordable education, regardless of their parents’ ZIP code or income.”
A few miles from where Harris will accept her party’s presidential nomination is Collins Career Academy. Not a single student there can read at grade level.
It’s not an issue of whether Chicago or Illinois follows the Democrats’ admonition to spend more on public schools. Collins spends $27,000 per student. Chicago Public Schools averages $18,287 per student. Illinois is 8th in the nation in terms of per-pupil education spending at $21,830. Besides, education research is mixed on the effectiveness of throwing money at poor academic performance. Some find how new education investments are spent matters more than how much is spent, with merely spending more money in the same old way failing to advance students. Click here to read more.

ST. LOUIS, MO - It’s been ten years since the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, launched violent riots and a movement that is largely based on misinformation to this day.
Above: Surveillance video showing Michael Brown choking a shop owner shortly before he attacked police officer Darren Wilson, who shot Brown in legitmate self defense, according to the Obama Justice Dept.
Brown’s hands weren’t raised.
Brown did not say “don’t shoot.”
Brown was not shot in the back.
Brown was shot in the front.
Brown was attacking police officer Darren Wilson.
“Eyewitnesses” quoted uncritically in the media were lying since they couldn’t have seen the events.
We were played.
It’s incredible how many people still don’t know the whole “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” narrative was a hoax and never happened (even according to the Obama Justice Dept.) Officer Darren Wilson continues to be slandered a decade later as misinformation is still circulated, even by some members of Congress. This is largely the media’s fault.
Officer Wilson was cleared. Click here to read more.

DETROIT (AP) — Canada's two largest railroads are starting to shut down their shipping networks as a labor dispute with the Teamsters union threatens to cause lockouts or strikes that would disrupt cross-border trade with the U.S.
Both the Canadian Pacific Kansas City and Canadian National railroads, which haul millions of tons of freight across the border, have stopped taking certain shipments of hazardous materials and refrigerated products.
Both are threatening to lock out Teamsters Canada workers starting Thursday if deals are not reached.
On Tuesday, CPKC will stop all shipments that start in Canada and all shipments originating in the U.S. that are headed for Canada, the railroad said Saturday. Click here to read more.

DETROIT, Mich - The Detroit Reparations Task Force is soliciting feedback from Black residents on ways the city should repay the community for harms most were not alive to witness.
“I did want to make sure we did tough on a spot of harm, particularly because that’s literally the basis of this work,” DRTF Co-chair Cidney Calloway said as she discussed the 35-question reparations survey at Gordon Park, near the epicenter of the 1967 riot that claimed 43 lives, including members of the Michigan Natural Guard, and Detroit police and firefighters.
“It’s like we have been harmed, and now we have to find repair and what it looks like,” Calloway told WDIV.
The effort is part of the task force’s work to produce a report for the Detroit City Council by March 2025 that outlines potential reparations. The task force stems from Proposal R, a referendum approved by the city’s voters in 2021 to study reparations. The 13-member task force was created by the city council in February 2023. LOS ANGELES, CALIF - California lawmakers are one step closer to making hundreds of millions of taxpayer-funded home loans available to residents living in the country illegally.
Democrats on the California Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously approved AB 1840 to move forward on Thursday, according to an official vote tally of the legislation. The bill has one last chance to be struck down on the Senate floor, where Democrats wield majority power, before it lands on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.
The legislation seeks to amend the California Dream For All Shared Appreciation Loan program, an initiative launched last year that provides first-time homebuyers with a loan of up to 20% of the house’s purchase price for down payment or closing cost. If passed and signed into law, illegal migrants living in California would be eligible to apply for a piece of the pie.
“Once again, California has chosen to prioritize illegal immigration and fiscal irresponsibility over the needs of its citizens, all while facing a $60 billion deficit that will ultimately be passed onto taxpayers,” San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond said in a statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
